Stay Consistent on Social Media | A Guide for DIY Artists (Part 2)

Blog · June 26, 2025

If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve been struggling to stay consistent on social media, especially as an independent artist juggling multiple responsibilities.

I completely relate to that.

Life gets busy, and the idea of showing up regularly to share your creative process can feel overwhelming.

But here’s the truth: staying consistent on social media doesn’t mean being perfect every day.

It means finding a rhythm that works for you and your unique creative flow.

That’s exactly why I created this part 2 guide.

To share 5 simple, low-pressure ways to stay consistent on social media without burning out, while still enjoying the process.

Ready?

Let’s dive in!

Find Your Format and Stick to It

One of the biggest challenges I faced was overthinking my content creation.

I’d get caught up trying to plan, shoot, edit, and post in a way that looked effortless, which, honestly, was exhausting.

The problem? I didn’t stick to a content format that worked for me.

Instead of switching up formats constantly, find one or two that fit your schedule and energy.

For me, it’s:

  • Static posts like word-image carousels
  • Quick reels where the visuals are simple but the caption carries the message

By repeating a content structure you enjoy, you simplify your process and make it easier to stay consistent on social media without feeling overwhelmed.

Create Content Series to Keep Ideas Flowing

As a podcast host, I always enjoy learning about people’s inspirations

On the other hand, as an artist, inspiration is a huge part of your story.

If you’ve ever shared the influences behind your latest release, don’t stop there.

Turn that into a content series.

For example, if you talk about one artist who shaped your sound, follow it up with a few posts exploring others who inspired you.

This not only gives you a steady stream of content but also provides your fans with deeper insight into your music, keeping them engaged and excited.

Creating a series helps you stay consistent on social media by reducing the pressure to constantly brainstorm fresh ideas.

Focus on Your Journey

In 2023, I launched a talk series event in Berlin focused on the evolution of black music.

Initially, I struggled to go beyond the basic event details in my Instagram stories.

But when my partner suggested I share why I was doing it, my passion and purpose, the content ideas started to flow naturally.

Try this simple exercise:

Grab a notebook or notes app and divide it into three sections:

  • What you’re learning
  • What’s inspiring you
  • Challenges you’re facing

Ask yourself:

  • What do I want people to know about my music or release right now?

Write down everything that comes to mind.

This simple yet powerful exercise will connect you to your journey, helping you stay consistent on social media with authentic, meaningful content.

Make Consistency Feel Good, Not Like a Chore

Being consistent doesn’t mean you have to post every single day.

I’ve learned this the hard way.

I recently thought about launching a weekly newsletter, but realised it wasn’t the right fit for me, at least not yet.

Instead, I’m still experimenting with monthly emails, which feels more sustainable.

The same goes for my Music Travel Guide Podcast and Instagram.

I aim for 2–3 posts a week and daily stories, but if I start overthinking, I ask myself:

How can I make this more fun?

Often, the answer is: “Keep it small.”

I believe that setting tiny, achievable goals creates a rhythm that feels natural.

This mindset makes it easier to stay consistent on social media without burnout.

Come Back to Your Why

One of the hardest parts about staying active online is feeling frustrated when your posts don’t reach as many (or the right) people as you hoped.

The whole ecosystem can also make it very easy to slip into comparison mode.

If you’ve felt that too, I’m right there with you.

When that happens, I remind myself to come back to the reason I’m posting in the first place.

Asking questions like:

  • What do I stand for?
  • What do I care about?
  • What do I believe in?

helps me reconnect with my purpose.

When you remind yourself why you’re showing up, you get back to YOU.

That’s when consistency starts to feel a little bit more natural, not forced, all without losing yourself.

Stay inspired!
