How to Confidently Introduce Yourself as a Music Artist

Blog · March 14, 2025

To introduce yourself as a music artist is a skill in itself, but there’s so much more to it

If one question still challenges me, it’s this:

“So, tell me more about what you do…”

Sometimes, I ramble and lose my focus.

Other times I get to the point with crystal clarity.

And when I do, something powerful happens.

I’m fully present, completely connected, and I have attention.

As a music artist, getting the attention you deserve isn’t just about what you say—it’s about how you see yourself.

Over the years, working with industry pros has taught me this: your self-perception shapes how others perceive you.

So, how do you introduce yourself as a music artist in a way that feels aligned and makes an impact?

Here are five mindset practices that continue to help me build collaborations:

Identify Your Strengths

Whenever you introduce yourself as a music artist, you’re naturally highlighting what makes you great.

Your strengths.

Even more, your strengths are an extension of who you are.

Whenever I connect to my being, I always see a difference in preparing myself before reaching out or introducing my work face-to-face.

I’m in connection to my spirit.

I can speak with purpose.

Words start to flow differently.

And strongly believe people can feel it.

Because at the end of the day, we’re all attracted by confident poeple.

Confidence is about owning who you are and staying true to what you believe in.

Take core values, for example—there’s a certain energy that comes through when you talk about what truly matters to you.

Whether it’s authenticity, social justice, or something else, I can’t help but pause when someone speaks about their values with real passion.

Technical skills are something we can find in every human being.

Different is knowing or reading about how you see the world.

No one has it like yours.

That’s your secret weapon any time you introduce yourself as a music artist.

📝 Take Action:

Journaling is always a great exercise to capture what’s on your mind, but also to highlight what others highlight about yourself. I highly recommend keeping a journal where you track feedback you receive and moments that make you proud in your music career.

Over time, you’ll start noticing patterns that can help you refine your approach before reaching out to the people you want to connect with. This adds intention and depth to your pitch. I do this by saving appreciation DMs and jotting down “aha moments” in my Notes app.

Focus on What You Can Offer, Not Just What You’ve Done

What difference can you make?

If there’s one thing I learned that works, it is to give value.

Always.

Every time.

It may sound a cliche but that’s how things work “on the other side of the glass.”

Poeple are and will always focus on this question:

What’s in it for me?

The best way to introduce yourself is by showing the impact you can make.

That’s what people want to know right from the start.

To do that, you just don’t want to focus on accomplishments.

You also want to shed light on how you can contribute.

By framing it in terms of benefits for the person you’re reaching out to, it feels less like bragging and more like a mutual opportunity.

Which is the essence of any type of collaboration.

📝 Take Action:

For example, let’s say you’re pitching your band project to a venue owner and are telling them about yourself. Instead of saying, “I’ve been playing guitar for 10 years and have collaborated with several legends within the realm of acoustic music” say:

“I’ve been honing my guitar skills for over a decade, and I love blending acoustic elements with modern sounds to create fresh, soulful vibes. I think my style would enhance the artistic line you’re going with your programming.”

Keep it concise and clear

Conciseness leads to clarity.

Whenever I get a:

“I don’t understand what you do specifically…”,

I need to take some time and take a step back.

To get clear on my gifts.

We all need clarity.

Same goes for industry professionals.

So be clear about what you do.

But also, about what you’re seeking.

People don’t have a lot of time.

Self-promotion doesn’t need to be long-winded.

And I tell you one thing more.

Clarity also leads to confidence.

A good elevator pitch can be shared in 30-60 seconds

(about the time it takes in an elevator ride! 🙂).

When you start mastering that, things become clear on both sides.

How to introduce yourself as a music artist means clarity.

That’s all it is.

📝 Take Action:

Let’s say you’re reaching out to a local industry professional based in your country to get feedback about a potential collaboration.

Here’s a brief example of how to add clarity:

“Hi, I’m [Your Name], and I’m a singer-songwriter blending [Your Music]. I recently released [Your Recent Work] that’s been getting some great feedback from fans who love [Your Fans Music Psycographics]. I’m currently looking to connect with other artists for collaboration opportunities on acoustic projects.”

Avoid the “I’m Still Trying” Mentality

Let’s keep talking confidence for a second.

I still remember sending emails in the past where I’d say things like,

“I’m trying…“

I showed one of them to my girlfriend once, and she looked at me and said,

“Trying? You’re already doing it!“

That hit me.

It made me realize something I couldn’t see at the time — how much growth I’d already experienced, even though I was just getting started.

This was back when I first launched my podcast in 2019.

Staying humble is important.

But downplaying your skills or acting like you’re not good enough can make others question your value.

Instead, focus on highlighting your experience and your drive to keep growing.

📝 Take Action:

Here’s an example. Instead of saying, “I’m at the beginning of my music career as a solo artist, I hope my project can be the right fit for a collaboration together”, say:

“I’ve been creating music for a few years now, and I’m looking for new opportunities to expand my reach and collaborate with innovative professionals in the industry. I am excited to bring fresh ideas to your organisation, which I see very in line with my core values.”

Know your value

Close your eyes.

Repeat with me:

“I am enough no matter what happens.”

“I am innately, completely, and undeniably fully forever worthy”

Just remember.

Every time you connect, know you’re worthy.
