In today’s episode, Brazilian singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Bia Ferreira discussed her musical experiences engaging with topics such as racism and Black feminism.
The Durchlüften Open Air Festival in Berlin this year has been a real treat. ✨
The festival presented a fantastic cross-genre live programme from Lagos to Port-au-Prince, from London to São Paulo and back to the dancefloor sounds of Berlin’s nightlife.
When Festival Curator Melissa Perales shared the entire lineup with me, I was super intrigued by the wide range of bands and artists participating.
Among them, my attention fell on Bia Ferreira.
Before stumbling upon her work, my knowledge about her was limited.
Having recently viewed a video of her on YouTube, I was captivated by her aura.
Particularly, her intention in sharing the messages behind her music.
The proof was right in front of me.
As soon as she set foot on stage, the whole atmosphere at the Humboldt Forum courtyard instantly lit up.

In Conversation with Bia Ferreira
Bia Ferreira stands out for her innovative approach to combining Afrodiasporic rhythms with Brazilian music.
She is known for her straightforward lyrics addressing important topics like necropolitics, racial quotas, anti-racism, women’s rights, LGBTQIAP+ rights, and affection.
Additionally, she’s been one of the strongest “voices” against Jair Bolsonaro inside and outside Brazil.
Her shows are full of music, love and speeches.
I catch up with Bia before her show at the Dürchluften Festival 2024.
Glowing with positivity and spirit, her sparkling eyes immediately welcomed me with great enthusiasm.
In our conversation, we talked about her musical influences, why she focuses on making political music, her debut album Igreja Lesbiteriana, Um Chamado, and all things sharing powerful messages through music.
Absolutely a spiritual time chatting with her!
I hope you will enjoy the experience. 🎧
