If you spend hours crafting cold booking emails and still don’t get replies, I want to start by telling you this: there’s nothing wrong with your music.
And most of the time, it’s not even about what you’re saying or that they’re not interested.
One thing I’ve realized – both working with artists and in my own outreach – is this: when you’re not asking for a big decision right away, people are much more likely to reply.
So instead of trying to get the gig immediately, focus on starting a conversation.
That’s what keeps the door open.
In this article, I’ll show you three simple habits you can start using right away to get more replies and open more opportunities with your booking emails.

Make Them Click
The first step in getting a reply to your booking emails happens before they even open your message. It’s your subject line.
And here’s what I believe is the shift most artists need to make:
Most people think: How do I make them open this?. But the better question is: “How do I make replying feel effortless?” At this level, your subject line should communicate three things:
- This is quick
- This is relevant to you
- You don’t need to make a big decision
That’s it.
You don’t want to create confusion and pressure at the same time.
Here are a few simple examples that I’ve found work well for booking emails:
- Booking question (Summer 2026)
- Right contact for live bookings?
- Quick question about your jazz series
I go a little more in-depth in my YouTube video about them, but what I’m trying to say here is this:
The goal is not to impress, it’s to reduce friction.
And that’s exactly what increases open rates and gives people more reasons to open your email.
Make Them Read
Once they open your booking email, you have one important job: make your email easy to read.
Don’t lose people here by over-explaining with long paragraphs, full biographies, or multiple links.
Because here’s the reality, and you probably already know this: bookers are busy.
They’re scanning, not studying your email.
So instead of trying to prove everything, focus on one clear message.
In my experience, a good booking email has to be:
- Easy to skim
- Straight to the point
- Focused on one idea
For example, instead of writing a long introduction, you can say:
Hi…, I’m an independent jazz artist based in Lisbon. I’ve been following your series and really love the direction you’re building.
That’s enough context. Then move forward.
If your email feels light, clear, and respectful of their time, people are much more likely to stay and read it.

Make It Easy to Reply
This is probably the most important part.
If you want replies to your booking emails, you need to make replying easy. And the best way to do that is through simple, low-pressure questions.
Because questions create small entry points into a conversation—they’re so important.
The great thing about simple questions is this: they reduce pressure and allow the conversation to build naturally over time.
Another important point: your question shouldn’t require a big decision.
Let me give you a few examples:
👉 Can I ask you a quick question about your programming?
You’re not asking for a gig; you’re just opening the door.
Are you currently booking for the summer season?
You’re not putting pressure on them for a big decision on the right on the spot.
👉 I saw you hosted [artist/show] recently—are you open to similar projects?
You’re showing intention and interest in their activities.
What’s the Real Goal of Cold Booking Emails?
Now ask yourself this: what’s the goal of this email?
Because for cold outreach, the goal is not to:
- Tell your whole story
- Pitch your entire career
- Send 10 links
The goal is simple: to start a conversation.
When that shift happens, you’ll start seeing more possibilities in your booking emails.
